The local Budget employee (not corporate) contacted me to secure the truck I had requested and arrange for pick up. When I arrived, the computer system was down and they had to handle everything manually. The workers were so patient and respectful to me and the other customers that began piling up as they diligently plowed through the time consuming process. Even though I had requested 2 hand trucks and a dozen blankets and they were only able to secure 1 hand truck with the blankets, they didn't charge me for any of the add-on supplies. These days, most companies would have just apologized but Budget compensated me for my extended time to check in as well as providing me with 1 less hand truck. We made do, but I appreciated their efforts in customer service. I would still recommend and do business with them again. The "other company" could not guarantee a truck would be there at the time I needed it...and when you've spent weeks preparing for a move with packing, buying and selling, closing timing, helpers at each end, moving out of town...it can get tedious getting everything in place for a hectic transition. I"m glad we went with Budget.
I initially reserved with Budget, but they called at the last minute (after the movers were paid!) and left a message saying they had no trucks. At the same time, they did not cancel reservation, which means I was liable for the rental charges. Budget did not return call and was totally unprofessional. It seems you can not count on Budget. U Haul was great, on the other hand.
PODS has great customer support. The POD was delivered on time, was clean. It is being picked up tomorrow, so I have yet to experience the second delivery. I called them a few times with questions and the phone is answered with short wait times. Everyone is helpful and cheerful. I switched from 1800PACKRAT when I could not get quick responses to my concerns. Hold times were up to an hour. The agents were all very nice. Hard for agents to get any timely info from their facilities regarding deliveries in tight quarters and the permit process. I was concerned about how much room they needed to pickup and deliver vs PODS.
UPack was fine aside from the mixed stories I got from their Sales folks. The first told me the units were airtight, leak-proof and stored in a warehouse between moves. Once the units arrived, I called and asked where the warehouse was located only to learn they don't use a warehouse. They store the cubes in an uncovered lot they own. When we unpacked, one of the cubes had leaked and we lost one piece of furniture due to mold. I'm guessing that one cube was damaged. ABF was good to work with aside from a staff member at the Savannah ,location who was quite rude. Diane and her team in Atlanta were amazing on the delivery side! They were kind, professional and caring. THANK YOU!
I recently rented an ABF Trailer to move my items from Portland, OR to Tampa, FL. I also stored my items for approximately 6 weeks awaiting the completing of my home. All went well with the move and communication from ABF. The only problem was with the trailer itself and the time it sat in storage. The front area of the trailer floor was a mix of wood and metal. The metal area of the trailer rusted and bled through to some of my boxes and furniture. The damage was minimal. I subsequently rented a second trailer to move the rest of my items and purchased tarps for the floor area. I'm expecting this second trailer to arrive soon and hoping the tarps will keep the rust at bay.
Everything excellent except the barn doors were difficult to manage and on both ends of the move there were problems with the barn doors, outbound had a very difficult time closing them, inbound the bar was bent and had to unbolt the bar from the door thereby incuring more time with movers hence more cost with movers. Aside from that very happy.
All went pretty well. The pickup and payment were easy and the staff friendly. The trucks do not have great power for the 26' size and were very slow on any hill and used a lot of gas. The only issue was that on return, we were told the gas was not full enough even though we had just filled it two blocks away. He stated that the nozzle has to be almost out of the tank in order to have it show full. That would have been useful to know prior to returning. Minor issue, but at the end of a long move, we really didn't want to make another gas trip. However, I would use them again.
